Australian Postgraduate Award (APA) This award is funded by the Australian Government and available to Australian citizens and permanent residents, New Zealand citizens and, if they have been awarded an International Postgraduate Research Scholarship (IPRS), to international students. Its annual stipend is paid in fortnightly amounts. You may also be eligible for allowances, such as a relocation or thesis allowance. If you are enrolled under our external mode (off-campus) regulations, you could be eligible for the award but require the support of the relevant academic unit and faculty. You must also reside in Australia. If you’re currently receiving an APA at another university, you can apply to transfer your award to Monash.

International students face unique challenges in beginning their research studies, which is why we offer a range of scholarships to make research at Monash more accessible. Many international candidates will be eligible for a Monash Graduate Scholarship and other Monash scholarships, but we offer several awards specifically for them.
